2016 Season opener: Sunday February 18th: The 58th Daytona 500.
2015: Kyle Busch missed 11 races, 2 months off the start of the season when he broke his leg and foot in an Xfinity Series wreck back in February at Daytona, but he made the amazing come- back complete winning the final Chase race to claim the 2015 championship in the Joe Gibbs Toyota.
Verizon IndyCar Series:
2016 Season opener: March 13th, St. Petersburg Florida. Honda Indy Toronto: July 17th.
2015: Scott Dixon and Juan Montoya tie at 556, but Dixon wins championship on the tie-breaker, 3 wins to 2. Dixon’s 4th championship for Chip Ganassi Racing.
Canadian Rally Championship presented by Subaru:
2016 season opener, The CRC’s 60th Diamond Anniversary: February 5-6, Rallye Perce Neige, Maniwaki Quebec.
Reigning and 8-time Canadian and 7-time North American Rally champ and frequent RLR guest, Subaru Rally Team Canada’s Antoine L’Estage has a new co-driver replacing Alan Ockwell, who wants some time off to travel. England’s Darren Gerrod takes over as Antoine’s co-driver this season. Darren has extensive experience in the UK!
World Rally Championship:
2016 season opener: January 24th, Rally Monte Carlo: 3-time consecutive champ Sebastien Ogier opened the 2016 tilt with a commanding 3rd-straight Monte Carlo Rally win! Ogier’s Volkswagen finally broke free from Chris Meeke’s Citroen for a 2 minute margin, when Meeke hit a rock, shattering the gearbox.
2016 Dakar Rally:
Stephane Peterhansel clinched his 12th win of this grueling over-land test, and Peugeot’s first since 1990 with not much pressure. Peterhansel finished just under 35 minutes ahead of last year’s winner Nasser Al-Attiyah driving his X-raid Mini. 9-time WRC champion Sebastien Loed led most of the first week, before tumbling down the order following a crash in the dunes in the Rally’s 2nd half. Loeb finished 9th in the end.
