Team Penske’s dominant start to the 2015 IndyCar season continued during qualifying for the first race of the Dual in Detroit, with Will Power, Helio Castroneves and overall points leader Juan Pablo Montoya posting the three fastest times, respectively.
Power broke the track record to earn his third pole of the season and aims to win at Belle Isle for the second straight year. The Australian driver was victorious in 2014’s first race in Detroit while Castroneves captured the second.
Takuma Sato qualified in a season-high fourth place while Penske member Simon Pagenaud rounded out the top five.
Oakville Ont., native James Hinchcliffe will sit out the race as he recovers from surgery after a life-threatening crash at the Indianapolis 500. Hinchcliffe’s team is hoping the driver can return by the beginning of August.
