Tony Stewart says he would like NASCAR to allow hockey-style fighting as a way for drivers to vent their frustrations.
Stewart was livid with fellow driver Joey Logano and the two got into a post-race shoving match Sunday after Logano aggressively blocked Stewart on a late restart during a race in Fontana, Calif.
After the race Stewart, 41, confronted Logano, 22, who threw a water bottle at Stewart as crews separated the two before things escalated.
“There’s still no excuse for Joey to do what he did. I’m just tired of watching these little kids whine and then they sit there and act tough when their crew guys get there in the middle of it and it’s about time if NASCAR wants to let the guys have at it, it shouldn’t be any different than hockey,” Stewart told reporters after the race. “Let us have at it and when one guy goes to the ground then it’s over.”
Stewart also added that he felt Logano was “nothing but a little rich kid that’s never had to work in his life.
“If he wants to talk about it, we’ll talk about it. After he threw the water bottle at me like a little girl, we’ll go at it now,”
In addition to his run-in with Stewart, Logano was involved in a last-lap crash with Denny Hamlin. Hamlin suffered a compression fracture in his lower back.
