ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Zach Veach won his first career Indy Lights race by leading every lap of Sunday’s season-opener in St Petersburg.

Veach passed polesitter Gabby Chaves in the first corner and cruised to a 5-second victory over Chavez.

Veach and Chaves were two of only three non-rookies in the 12-driver field.

Jack Harvey finished third for the rookie’s first career podium finish.

The race was stopped once, at the start, when Scott Anderson crashed heavily at Turn 3.
