BERLIN -- Michael Schumacher says he feels like a child before Christmas as he prepares for his first Formula One race since 2006.
The 41-year-old German said on his website Friday that his decision to return with Mercedes GP "feels like a long time ago now" and he can hardly wait for the season to start with the Bahrain Grand Prix on March 14.
Schumacher said that he feels fresher than he has in years and is physically prepared for the challenge.
The seven-time world champion said it's important to be in the leading group "from the start of the season and I am confident that we will be there."
He added: "I feel like a child looking forward to Christmas."
