ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates -- Nico Rosberg has agreed to a contract extension that will keep the German Formula One driver with the Mercedes team through the 2013 season.
Rosberg, who joined Mercedes for the 2010 season, has earned 217 points for the team and currently sits seventh in the driver standings just ahead of teammate and seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher.
Rosberg said he was excited to finalize the deal and has "every confidence that the team will provide him with a winning car and that we will be able to contribute to the fantastic racing heritage of the Silver Arrows."
Team principal Ross Brawn said the contract extension showed the team's confidence in Rosberg, who he called "a driver who can win races and championships."
