Mercedes to re-sign Schumacher?
Michael Schumacher may be staying at Mercedes for a little while longer.
Daimler chairman Dieter Zetsche said on Thursday that he would like to extend the contract of the seven-time Formula One World Champion.
Schumacher's current deal expires at the end of the 2012 season.
"He is still a motor sports icon," Zetsche told German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, adding that re-signing Schumacher is, "an attractive possibility."
Schumacher, 43, also told the paper he hasn't decided his future.
"I never gave any prognosis about my career," he said. "The right time will come to discuss my future."
After retiring in 2006, Schmaucher returned to F1 in 2009, filling in for the injured Felipe Massa before signing a three-year contract to join Mercedes for 2010.
Schumacher, the all-time F1 wins leader with 91 victories, has yet to win a race with his new team and has finished ninth (2010) and 10th (2011) in the driver’s standings.
