Jim Leyland: We're 'pretty good' in key areas, but vets need to lead
March 15, 2010 | Source: Detroit Free Press
Tigers manager Jim Leyland said there are two key factors for the team having early success -- figuring out who fits in the starting rotation and getting good play from the veterans early on to keep pressure off the younger players.
Leyland has been impressed with a lot of what he's seen thus far in Grapefruit League play.
"Are we a great hitting team? No, but I think we're pretty good," Leyland said. "Are we great pitching? No, but I think we're pretty good. Great defense? No, but I think we're pretty good. When you're good in a lot of areas, you have a chance to have a pretty good year."
