McGowan makes mound return
March 19, 2010
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
DUNEDIN, Fla. -- Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Dustin McGowan pitched 1 2-3 innings Friday against minor-league players in his first game in nearly 21 months.
McGowan expressed some dissatisfaction with the 36-pitch performance, and said he accepts that he won't be on the Blue Jays' opening day roster.
McGowan left a game July 8, 2008 because of a sore right shoulder that required surgery. Delays in rehabilitation, including right knee surgery, sidelined him for all of 2009.
He allowed two hits and two walks but no runs with one strikeout against Pittsburgh triple-A players. Afterward, he said he felt fatigued.
His control was off and his fastball reached 88 miles an hour.
