Arencibia named MVP of PCL
THE CANADIAN PRESS
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Toronto Blue Jays prospect catcher J.P. Arencibia has been named the triple-A Pacific Coast League's most valuable player for 2010.
The 24-year-old Arencibia batted .301 over 104 games with the Las Vegas 51s. He hit 32 home runs and had 85 RBIs.
Arencibia had a memorable major-league debut with the Blue Jays on Aug. 7, when he sent the first pitch he saw over the Rogers Centre fence in a 17-11 victory over Tampa Bay. He finished that game 4-for-5 with two homers, a double and three RBIs.
Arencibia was the Blue Jays' first-round pick, 21st overall, in the 2007 amateur draft.
The Blue Jays recalled Arencibia from Las Vegas on Wednesday when the active rosters expanded.
