According to a report in the Toronto Sun, the Blue Jays interviewed former Texas Rangers and New York Mets manager Bobby Valentine as a replacement for Cito Gaston on Tuesday.

Valentine, 60, has reportedly interviewed for managerial openings in Florida and Seattle. According to sources, Valentine is Ichiro Suzuki's preference to fill the Mariners opening.

Valentine has managed 2,189 games in his career, compiling a .510 record. He last managed the Mets in 2002, and currently is a baseball analyst for ESPN. Valentine also spent six seasons managing the Chiba Lotte Marines in Japan.

Other reported candidates for the Blue Jays manager search include Don Baylor, Brian Butterfeld, Bob Melvin, Ryne Sandberg, Eric Wedge, and Tim Wallach.
