MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Twins have placed left-hander Francisco Liriano on the disabled list with a strained shoulder after he left Thursday's game against Baltimore early.
Liriano gave up one run on two hits in two innings. He walked Robert Andino with the bases loaded in the second inning for the only run he allowed.
Liriano walked three and struck out two and was replaced by right-hander Alex Burnett. Liriano will have an MRI on Friday and Scott Diamond was recalled from triple-A Rochester.
After Burnett pitched one inning, Anthony Swarzak was forced into emergency duty. Swarzak was scheduled to start the series opener against Detroit on Friday night, but he pitched 3 1-3 innings on Thursday.
Diamond will start on Friday against Rick Porcello.
