The Toronto Blue Jays spent some cash on Monday, signing free agent reliever Darren Oliver and designating Mark Teahen for assignment.
Oliver's deal is for one-year and $4 million with a $3 million club option for 2013.
In order to make room on the club's 40-man roster, the Jays designated utilityman Teahen and his $5.5 million 2012 salary for assignment.
The 41-year-old Oliver spent the past two seasons with the Texas Rangers and posted a 2.29 ERA in 51 innings in 2011. The 18-year MLB veteran has played for eight teams in his career.
