Free agent reliever Ryan Madson agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Cincinnati Reds Wednesday, according to a report from MLB.com.
Madson was 4-2 with a 2.37 ERA and 32 saves in his first full season as the Philadelphia Phillies' closer.
The 31-year-old will take over the ninth inning duties for the Reds after Francisco Cordero held the role for the past four seasons. Cordero is a free agent and isn't expected to return to the team.
The Reds have added starter Mat Latos and reliever Sean Marshall in trades so far this off-season after finishing third in the NL Central last season. The Reds won the division in 2010.
Madson hoped to return to the Phillies but couldn't reach an agreement after the team signed new closer Jonathan Paplebon to a multi-year deal.
