The Toronto Blue Jays officially placed J.A. Happ on the disabled list with a head contusion Wednesday. The left-hander was recently released from the hospital after being hit in the head with a line drive in Tuesday night’s game between the Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Rays.

The Blue Jays selected the contract of right-hander Edgar Gonzalez from triple-A Buffalo in a related roster move.

Happ left the hospital Wednesday while using crutches and wearing a right knee brace. He issued the following statement thanking his supporters:

“I’m in good spirits, I definitely appreciate the support of the baseball community. It’s been overwhelming the messages and kind words I’ve been getting. I just want to thank everyone for that, and I look forward to getting back out there soon.”

Happ had to be taken from the field with a stretcher after a line drive from Desmond Jennings hit him in the head.
