HOUSTON — Los Angeles star outfielder Mike Trout was out of the starting lineup Tuesday night in the Angels’ 10-5 loss to the Houston Astros because of an injured left wrist.
The All-Star centre fielder was hurt attempting to make a diving catch in the fourth inning on Sunday in a 13-7 victory over Texas but stayed in the game and later hit a grand slam.
"Came in just sore and took a couple of swings in the cage and obviously felt it," Trout said. "It was bothering me pretty bad."
Manager Mike Scioscia said Trout had an MRI on Tuesday that revealed no structural damage and that he is listed as day to day.
Interim general manager Bill Stoneman gave more details on Trout’s injury when asked if newly acquired outfielder David DeJesus could see time in centre field. The Angels also acquired outfielder David Murphy on Tuesday.
"I’m not sure how much time Trout is going to need," Stoneman said. "He’s got a little strain. He’s day to day, so hopefully he won’t miss a whole lot of time, but if he happens to, maybe one of these guys could be the one that fills in for him."
Trout leads the majors with 31 homers and is hitting .315 with 64 RBIs.
Tuesday was the first game of a three-game series between the top teams in the American League West. Houston moved into a tie with Los Angeles for first place in the division with Tuesday night’s win.
