Despite indications that the Toronto Blue Jays will be taking eight relievers north, general manager Alex Anthopoulos has only made final decisions on two bullpen arms.
“I’d say right now the only [bullpen] locks are [Brett] Cecil and [Aaron] Loup,” Anthopoulos said Tuesday on Sportsnet 590 the FAN’s The Jeff Blair Show.
No matter how quickly Anthopoulos wants to come to a decision with the bullpen, actually making one could stretch out a few more days.
“We’re going to take as much time as we can, get as much information as we can,” the Blue Jays GM said. “Hopefully we’d like to decide in the next few days but if it goes until Sunday, so be it.”
On Tuesday, the Blue Jays announced much of their opening-day roster and names that made the cut include youngsters Dalton Pompey and Devon Travis.
Additionally, Drew Hutchison will get the start on Monday against Masahiro Tanaka and the New York Yankees.
The Blue Jays are expected to break camp with right-handers Marco Estrada, Miguel Castro and Todd Redmond. Left-hander Colt Hynes and right-handers Liam Hendriks and Roberto Osuna are also in the mix for relief roles.
