Astros avoid arbitration with outfielder Presley

HOUSTON — The Houston Astros reached agreement with Alex Presley on a $1 million, one-year contract Tuesday, avoiding arbitration with the outfielder.

The 29-year-old hit. 244 with six homers and 19 RBIs in 89 games for Houston last season. He played all three outfield positions, starting in 29 games in left field, 20 in right and 14 in centre.

It was his first year in Houston after the Astros picked him up on waivers from the Twins in March.

Houston has eight other players eligible for arbitration including designated hitter Chris Carter, outfielder Dexter Fowler and catcher Jason Castro.
