Astros underdogs vs. Dodgers as World Series gets underway

The Houston Astros will be looking to reverse a 2-5 run in their past seven road games when they travel to Los Angeles on Tuesday to face the Dodgers in Game 1 of the World Series as +156 underdogs on the MLB odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

The Astros were pushed to the brink of elimination after dropping three straight games in New York during their ALCS matchup with the Yankees before responding with a pair of dominating wins to close out the series in seven games and advance to the World Series for the first time since 2005.

Those defeats extended Houston’s historically poor postseason performance on the road, where it is 5-10 over its past 15 going into Tuesday night’s Astros versus Dodgers betting matchup at Dodger Stadium.

Pegged as +150 underdogs on the series prices, the Astros are making just their second all-time appearance in the Fall Classic. Houston was swept in four games by the Chicago White Sox after reaching the World Series as a National League Wild Card 12 years ago, but advanced to this year’s postseason after leading the AL West with a 101-61 record including an MLB-leading 53-28 record on the road.

The Dodgers prepare to host Houston as -166 chalk on Tuesday night after dispatching the Chicago Cubs with a five-game series win in the NLCS, capped by an 11-1 victory at Wrigley Field as -142 chalk last Thursday.

Los Angeles dominated the defending champions in their NLCS matchup, outscoring the Cubs by a 28-8 margin and fueling their rise to -170 favourites to win their first World Series title since their last appearance in the Fall Classic 29 years ago.

While the Astros were road warriors in the regular season, the Dodgers dominated at home, posting an MLB-best 57-24 record, and are 9-1 in their past 10 games at Dodger Stadium including a perfect 4-0 postseason record, according to the OddsShark MLB Database.

Los Angeles, though, also demonstrated it is prone to dismal play on home turf after losing nine straight at Chavez Ravine in a run that started in late August. However, the Dodgers have dominated when the Astros come to town, going 10-3 in their past 13 home meetings.
