OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland Athletics have activated slugger Yoenis Cespedes from the disabled list before Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles.

Cespedes was immediately inserted into the lineup, batting cleanup and playing left field.

The A’s are hoping Cespedes can give their slumping offence a boost. He had three home runs and seven RBIs before going on the DL on April 13 with a strained muscle in his left hand.

In just a little over a year in the big leagues, the Cuban has had a remarkable impact while in Oakland’s lineup. Since the beginning of last season, the A’s are 90-48 with Cespedes and just 17-32 without him.

To make room, outfielder Casper Wells was designated for assignment.
