The Toronto Blue Jays made a depth move Thursday, acquiring outfielder Adron Chambers from the Houston Astros for left-hander Alejandro Solarte and infielder Will Dupont. The move gives the Blue Jays another outfield option in triple-A.

Chambers, 27, has played for the St. Louis Cardinals in each of the last three seasons, batting .216/.289/.295 in 99 total plate appearances and appearing at all three outfield positions. He was batting .281/.356/.416 for Houston’s top affiliate before the trade.

Solarte, a 19-year-old Venezuelan had a 2.96 ERA in 24.1 innings with the Blue Jays’ rookie league affiliate in 2013. Dupont played for the same team, posting a .650 OPS in 26 games.

The Blue Jays released left-hander Ryan Rowland-Smith and traded utility player Matt Tuiasosopo to the Chicago White Sox, according to the Buffalo Bisons.
