Blue Jays activate catcher Russell Martin from DL, will start vs. Orioles

Welington Castillo’s second two-run jack of the game came in the 10th inning after a long rain delay, giving the Orioles a 5-3 win over the Blue Jays.

Toronto Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin will start behind the plate and bat seventh in Saturday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles.

Martin was placed on the 10-day DL due to nerve inflammation in his right shoulder. The 34-year-old has been activated and will see action tonight for the first time since a May 7 game in Tampa Bay.

He has a .365 on-base percentage and three home runs this season.

In a Corresponding move, 26-year-old catcher Mike Ohlman has been designated for assignment. Ohlman hit seven home runs in 23 games in triple-A before getting the call to the majors when Martin was injured.

The Blue Jays have also sent outfielder Dwight Smith Jr. back to Buffalo while Anthony Alford remains on the big-league roster. He will be on the bench for Saturday’s game.
