Injured Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Anthony Alford is expected to return to action on Wednesday night as a designated hitter for the organization’s advanced-A affiliate in Dunedin.

Alford has been sidelined since breaking his left hamate bone while fouling off a pitch in a May 23 contest against the Milwaukee Brewers. He collected his first major-league hit earlier in the game.

The outfielder’s development has been stalled in recent years, as he missed time with a concussion and leg issues in 2016. He was four games into his big-league career when he suffered the hamate injury.

Alford, who turns 23 next week, recently fell to No. 38 from 34 on Baseball America’s list of Top 100 prospects.
