Blue Jays climbing World Series odds entering September

Blue Jays Hall of Famer Roberto Alomar joined Andrew Walker on Wednesday to talk about his career and also a bit about what Alomar sees with this year's team going into the stretch run.

As the calendar turns to September the Toronto Blue Jays continue their rise on the World Series odds, sitting at +900 on those futures at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

The Blue Jays went 17-11 in August and are 5-1 in their past six games, lifting them to the top of the AL East standings where they sit two games up on second-place Boston heading into the weekend.

Following an off-day on Thursday, Toronto continues its current nine-game road trip in Tampa Bay, where they open a three-game set with Friday night’s Blue Jays vs. Rays betting matchup at Tropicana Field.

The Blue Jays have built much of this year’s success on strong performances against AL East rivals, going a division-best 31-23 to date. That bodes well for the club, which follows up this weekend’s set against the Rays with three games against the New York Yankees before returning home for a critical three-game series against the Red Sox.

Overall, the Blue Jays play 22 of their final 29 contests in the division, capped by three dates each against Boston and Baltimore in the final week of the campaign.

Toronto has enjoyed considerable success against both the Red Sox and the Orioles this season. The Blue Jays have won eight of their past 12 games against the Orioles including two of three this past week, dropping Baltimore four games back in the standings and sending their World Series odds to +1200.

The Blue Jays have also taken six of their past eight games against the struggling Red Sox, who have lost five of their past eight games overall. Boston is at +1400 to win the World Series.

Powered by the best record in the majors, the Chicago Cubs continue to lead the way as +300 World Series betting favourites. The Cubs have dominated the NL Central with a 37-16 record against division rivals, amassing a huge double-digit lead which they are likely to ride to their first division pennant since 2008.

Fresh off a three-game sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies, the NL East-leading Washington Nationals trail the Cubs at +650 on the World Series odds along with the Texas Rangers. The San Francisco Giants hold down odds of +750, with the Cleveland Indians set at +800 odds.
