Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Devon Travis has been progressing well from his injured right knee.
Travis was a guest on Sportsnet 590 The FAN’s Blue Jay a Day Pre-Game Show Monday and says he’s been improving over the past month.
“Every single day has been better and better,” Travis said. “I truly did get so close to getting back out there on the field and I was so excited and I thought I could be a day, two, three days away.
“Unfortunately, I didn’t have a setback through my entire rehab. I had my first one and I had a really bad time.”
The 26-year-old had a procedure to repair damaged cartilage in his right knee in June and was placed on Toronto’s 60-day disabled list.
He had been progressing towards a potential late season return, but a setback in his rehab in August hindered those plans.
“This last month has obviously been really tough,” Travis said. “Having to watch the games from the TV and from the bench on the DL is something that unfortunately … it’s a very familiar situation.”
Travis, who hit .259 with five home runs and 24 runs-batted in 50 games this season, says he’s excited to get going at 2018 Blue Jays spring training.
“I just want to play a full season in the big leagues,” he said. “I want to be there for the team when it’s most important, down the stretch run, and I’m going to do that, that’s for sure.”
