Sitting in the basement of the American League East standings, the Toronto Blue Jays are sliding down the odds to win the World Series at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

With just 18 wins over their first 42 games of the season the Blue Jays are 4.5 games behind the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays for first place in the AL East, with the Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles also ahead of them in the standings.

So with ground to make up this summer the Blue Jays find themselves back at 40/1 odds to win the World Series, down from 33/1 odds two weeks ago and 20/1 odds early in April. Toronto had managed to pick up just two wins over its last 10 games heading into its series finale against the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday; they’ll host the Mariners this weekend.

Leading the way on the updated World Series futures at the sportsbooks are the Los Angeles Dodgers at 6/1, followed by the Washington Nationals at 13/2, and the Kansas City Royals at 15/2. The Dodgers hold down the lead in the NL West standings, with the Nationals in first place in the NL East, and the Royals atop the AL Central.

The St. Louis Cardinals are then at 8/1, with the Detroit Tigers at 9/1, the Chicago Cubs at 12/1, and the Yankees at 14/1. The Yankees have struggled in the past week after getting off to a solid start to the season, losing three straight games and seven of their past 10 outings to fall into a tie with the Rays atop the AL East.

The next tier of World Series contenders then has the San Francisco Giants at 16/1 followed by both the New York Mets and the Houston Astros at 18/1. The Astros have been the surprise story of the early part of the season, sitting at 27-14 through their first 41 games and holding down the lead in the AL West over the Angels and Mariners.

And both the Angels and the Mariners are set at 22/1 on the latest World Series betting lines, with the San Diego Padres and the Red Sox at 25/1, and the Pittsburgh Pirates at 28/1. The Orioles, Rays, and Chicago White Sox all join the Blue Jays at 40/1 on those title odds.

The Minnesota Twins lead off the longer shots on those baseball futures at 50/1, with the Cleveland Indians and the Oakland Athletics at 66/1, the Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds, and Miami Marlins at 100/1, and the Arizona Diamondbacks at 200/1.

The Milwaukee Brewers, Philadelphia Phillies, and Texas Rangers are all well back at 300/1 on the latest World Series odds at the sportsbooks, while the Colorado Rockies are the biggest longshot at 500/1 – the Rockies have won just 14 of their first 37 games.
