Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher J.A. Happ made his first rehab start for advanced-A Dunedin Blue Jays on Thursday and the results were mixed.
In three innings plus, Happ gave up three earned runs on seven hits. He also had three strikeouts.
He left the game trailing 2-1 but the Blue Jays rallied to a walk-off 5-4 win.
Happ only made three starts for Toronto this season before going on the DL with left elbow inflammation. He gave up eight earned runs in 16 innings, striking out 20 in those starts.
He will likely make two more rehab starts before returning to the lineup, meaning he won’t be available for the Blue Jays’ vacant starting spot on Tuesday against the Cincinnati Reds.
