Blue Jays option Boyd, DFA Redmond after loss

David Ortiz and Hanley Ramirez had consecutive homers in an eight-run first inning, Xander Bogaerts had four hits and the Boston Red Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays 12-6 on Thursday night.

Following a 12-6 loss at the hands of the Boston Red Sox in which the Toronto Blue Jays used seven relievers, the team has made some roster moves.

Matt Boyd has being optioned, while Todd Redmond is being designated for assignment.

Boyd had a disastrous start for the Blue Jays on Thursday night, allowing seven runs without recording an out. Through two starts at the big league level, the rookie southpaw has posted an 0-2 record and a 14.85 ERA.

Redmond also pitched on Thursday, getting through a scoreless inning with one hit allowed. He has a 0-0 record and 7.31 ERA on the season.

The Blue Jays have yet to announce who will be joining the team to replace Boyd and Redmond, but an announcement is expected Friday.
