TORONTO — The Toronto Blue Jays juggled their roster on Saturday, placing pitcher Brandon Morrow on the 15-day disabled list, calling Ramon Ortiz up from the minors to replace him.
Morrow (2-3) has a 5.63 earned-run average, with 42 strikeouts. The 28-year-old left Tuesday’s start against Atlanta after two innings due to right forearm tightness.
The 40-year-old Ortiz (1-2) has appeared in six games this season for Toronto, with a 5.01 ERA. Reliever Chad Jenkins had been optioned to Buffalo on Friday, with Mickey Storey moving up the Toronto.
The 27-year-old Storey has made two appearances for Toronto in 2013, recording a 7.36 ERA over 3.2 innings.
Starting pitcher Ricky Romero was outrighted to Toronto’s triple-A affiliate in Buffalo, N.Y., to make space on the Blue Jays 40-man roster.
The removal of Romero from the 40-man roster means the Blue Jays had exposed him to waivers earlier this week. There were no takers however for the prorated $7.5 million he is due to earn for the remainder of 2013 and the guaranteed $15.6 million he will earn between 2014-15.
In four starts with Buffalo in 2013, Romero has posted a 13.85 ERA and 3.308 WHIP in 13 innings, striking out three and walking 20.
Romero started for Buffalo on Saturday night.
