Blue Jays sign Thole to big-league deal, option Travis to Bluefield

Sportsnet MLB writer Arden Zwelling explains the Devon Travis demotion to Bluefield, saying it's just paper work, allowing them to sign Josh Thole, and Travis won't even miss any major league time.

The Toronto Blue Jays have signed catcher Josh Thole to a big-league deal and optioned second baseman Devon Travis to Bluefield.

With Thole back on the roster, a corresponding move had to be made. As Bluefield’s season ends Thursday, Travis is eligible to return to the Blue Jays in time for the team’s weekend series against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Thole, primarily used to catch knuckleballer R.A. Dickey, will be eligible for the post-season. The 29-year-old has had a tough season at the plate, hitting .158/.246/.211 with one home run in 47 games.
