NASHVILLE — The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired infielder-outfielder Garin Cecchini from the Boston Red Sox for cash.

Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement Thursday after the winter meeting draft.

The Red Sox designated Cecchini for assignment on Dec. 4. The 24-year-old Cecchini appeared in two games for the Red Sox this season. The left-handed batter hit .213 with seven homers and 28 RBIs in 117 games for Triple-A Pawtucket.

Cecchini was a fourth-round selection by Boston in the 2010 amateur draft.
