The St. Louis Cardinals are asking for help finding the cat that wandered onto the Busch Stadium outfield Wednesday night.
According to statement released by the Cardinals, Lucas Hackmann, a member of the team’s grounds crew, was the person sent out to retrieve the cat. After Hackmann removed the cat from the field a fan grabbed it from him, claiming it belonged to her. Security interviewed the woman, who then left with the cat but lost it in a park near the stadium.
The Cardinals are hoping to find the cat so that they can make sure it is being properly taken care of.
The team will also be developing a “stray animal protocol” to safely handle situations like this should they happen again.
The Cardinals players might be secretly hoping it happens again, considering the good luck the cat brought on Wednesday.
One pitch after Hackmann removed the cat from the field in the sixth inning, catcher Yadier Molina hit a grand slam that put the Cardinals up for good in a 8-5 win.
“I’m not a cat person but I sure liked that one,” Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said after the game, according to The Associated Press.
On Thursday Hackmann spoke with KMOV in St. Louis about his 30 seconds of fame.
“My dad is absolutely loving it,” he said. “My phone has been lighting up. (I’m) trying to reach back to everyone I can but it’s getting pretty crazy.”
