Chicago Cubs president Theo Epstein has been named world’s greatest leader by FORTUNE, which released a list on Thursday ranking global figures ranging from politicians and CEOs to musicians and sports figures.

Epstein was followed on the list by Jack Ma, executive chairman of Alibaba Group, and Pope Francis. Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James ranked No. 11, while Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau came in at No. 31.

The list was compiled using nominations from a panel of advisers. Each leader is described as incorporating the following into their work:

• Acknowledge reality and offer hope

• Bring followers physically together

• Build bridges

Epstein guided the Cubs through a massive rebuild that resulted in the team ending a 108-year championship drought in 2016.

The team thrived under the affable patience of owner Tom Ricketts, and, later, under the innovative eccentricity of manager Joe Maddon. But most important of all was the evolution of the club’s president for baseball operations, Theo Epstein, the wunderkind executive who realized he would need to grow as a leader in order to replicate in Chicago the success he’d had with the Boston Red Sox.[cite]FORTUNE[/cite][/blockquote]
