Toronto Blue Jays fans appear to now have a concrete date to circle on their calendar for David Price’s return to the Rogers Centre mound.
Following a rainout that postponed Monday’s opening day matchup between the Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Indians, the ace left-hander is now slated to make his second start of the season this Sunday, when he’ll take on right-hander Marco Estrada and the Blue Jays.
Price was acquired by Toronto at the trade deadline last season and went 9-1 with a 2.30 ERA to help the Blue Jays clinch the American League East. He signed a seven-year, $217-million deal with Boston in the off-season.
Estrada meanwhile, is set to be activated off the disabled list to make his first start of the season Sunday after his spring training was slowed by a wonky back.
It will be interesting to see how Blue Jays fans react to Price in his start. Will they cheer for the former fan favourite? Or will they carry out Marcus Stroman’s wish?
