Dodgers’ Cody Bellinger gets roasted for not knowing who Jerry Seinfeld is

Los Angeles executive Alex Anthopoulos discusses Cody Bellinger taking the MLB by storm, and why it isn’t that surprising to the Dodgers front office.

While Los Angeles Dodgers rookie sensation Cody Bellinger is already solidifying himself as one of the league’s premier power-hitters, he still has room for improvement.

Particularly in the ‘world-famous television show’ department.

The 21-year-old appeared in an interview with ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt and was asked very bluntly if he knows who Jerry Seinfeld is.

“I’m not going to lie to you, I know the name, but I couldn’t put a face to the name,” Bellinger said, relunctantly. “I don’t really know what he does, man. I’m sorry.”

The interview made its rounds on Baseball Twitter and fun was had at the expense of Bellinger. His Dodgers teammates were certainly not going to let him get away with it.

Backed into a corner, the young first baseman/outfielder issued an apology.

Considering he was born in 1995 and Seinfeld aired between 1989 and 1998, he could have been given a pass on this one. But at just 25-years-old, Alex Wood and Enrique “Kike” Hernandez aren’t much older and seemed to take his Seinfeld negligence personally.

It’s hard to believe he never caught one of those reruns over the last 10 years. Although maybe he was busy preparing to become the fastest rookie to hit 21 home runs in MLB history.

Next time he’s asked about a pop-culture phenomenon on national television, he should take the advice of George Costanza.

“Jerry, just remember, it’s not a lie if you believe it.”
