Dombrowski: Tigers ‘rebooting’, open to trades

The Detroit Tigers have made a determination on their philosophy with the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline quickly approaching.

Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski told a handful of local reporters following Wednesday afternoon’s game that the club will listen on trades for pending free agents.

“We’ll only make a trade if we think it makes sense for us,” Dombrowski said (via MLB.com reporter Jason Beck). “But it gives us a chance to maybe restock our club [after] some of the prospects that we traded away, get some people that will help us reboot and take it from there.”

The decision to move forward as sellers puts all-star left-hander David Price, outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, reliever Joakim Soria, and outfielder Rajai Davis as possible trade candidates with 48 hours to go before Friday’s deadline.

Price and Cespedes are expected to be highly-coveted by clubs looking to bolster their major-league rosters.

With a victory over the Rays on Wednesday, the Tigers now have a 49-53 record but they remain 12.5 games back of the division-leading Kansas City Royals in the AL Central.
