Gibbons: Blue Jays were ‘in on’ Headley talks

Jays manager John Gibbons speculates when Aaron Sanchez might make his MLB debut, talks about getting great production from the bottom of his lineup, and gives an optimistic update on injuries.

Chase Headley has already delivered a game-winning hit as a member of the New York Yankees, but it wasn’t long ago that he was on the trade market.

While the Toronto Blue Jays don’t appear to have made a serious push for the infielder, they did show some interest. Manager John Gibbons confirmed to MLB Network Radio Wednesday that the Blue Jays were “in on the Headley deal,” before the Yankees acquired him for infielder Yangervis Solarte and minor league pitcher Rafael De Paula.

The Blue Jays have interest in adding an infielder, but are also keeping tabs on the pitching market leading up to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.
