Since 2004, the date April 15 has come to signify one thing across Major League Baseball: the annual celebration of Jackie Robinson Day.
On Friday, as MLB celebrates the 75th anniversary of Robinson’s historic major league debut, all players taking the field will wear his iconic No. 42. By breaking baseball’s colour barrier, Robinson started a new era of baseball – one in which players were selected on merit, not barred due to racism. But in addition to being a trailblazer, Robinson should also be remembered as one of the greatest second basemen ever to have played the game.
