Earlier on Friday, Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista tweeted he would dedicate Friday’s game against the Oakland Athletics to Derek Lendosky, the 9-year-old boy from Fennimore, WI, killed in an accident last Sunday.
Bautista retweeted a tweet by Derek’s father, Steve, back on Aug. 7 stating that the boy would be buried Friday wearing his Bautista jersey and taking a ball the Jays’ slugger had given him.
Despite the 14-6 loss to the A’s, Bautista smashed a home run into the upper deck during the eighth inning. In addition, Bautista collected two doubles to go along with the home run, and he is now hitting .264/.361/.510 on the season.
After the game Steve thanked Bautista for honouring his son.
