Jays call up Jenkins; Johnson on disabled list

From Dan Johnson's 3-run blast in the 9th, to Marcus Stroman's 8-K performance vs. Boston, here's the best plays and individual performances from the Blue Jays latest 5-game winning streak.

HOUSTON – The Toronto Blue Jays are adding a reliever in time for Thursday night’s game against the Astros – one of their own.

Chad Jenkins was en route to Houston from triple-A Buffalo, industry sources told Sportsnet, set to give manager John Gibbons a seven-man pen once again. The team had been down to six men since Rob Rasmussen was optioned Tuesday to clear a roster spot for infielder Danny Valencia, and didn’t want to wait for an extra arm.

The Blue Jays placed Dan Johnson on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain in a related move.

Jenkins’ arrival does not mean the Blue Jays won’t make any deals prior to the 4 p.m. ET non-waiver trade deadline.
