Jays scratch Encarnacion due to jammed finger

Edwin Encarnacion was scratched from Wednesday's lineup with a finger injury.

Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Edwin Encarnacion was scratched from Wednesday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies with a jammed left middle finger.

Encarnacion, originally scheduled to play first base and hit fourth in the Blue Jays’ batting lineup on Wednesday, will be replaced by Chris Colabello.

It is unclear when the 32-year-old slugger suffered the injury, but precautionary x-rays were negative.

Encarnacion is batting .238/.335/.452 with 19 home runs and 56 RBI in 400 plate appearances this season.

The Blue Jays are already missing second baseman Devon Travis, who suffered a shoulder injury in Tuesday’s loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.

Entering Wednesday’s game, the Blue Jays have a 50-51 record and remain 2.5 games out of a wild card position.
