Jose Bautista homers in first game of single-A rehab assignment

Jose Bautista is back (sort of), crushing a home run in his first rehab start in Dunedin, Florida.

Jose Bautista didn’t take long to make his mark at the single-A level.

On Wednesday night, Bautista began his rehab assignment by hitting a solo home run in his first at-bat with the Dunedin Blue Jays.

The 35-year-old slugger would go on to have a 1-for-3 night with a strikeout and a ground out while playing right field. He was lifted in favour of Josh Almonte following his third at-bat. Dunedin suffered a 8-5 loss at the hands of the Charlotte Stone Crabs.

Bautista is working his way back from a toe injury he suffered on June 16 in Philadelphia.

Prior to his injury, Bautista was hitting .230/.360/.455 in 286 plate appearances with 12 home runs and 41 RBI.
