Hosted by Arden Zwelling and Ben Nicholson-Smith, At the Letters connects Toronto Blue Jays fans with the stories, numbers and characters surrounding the team. Expect new episodes every Wednesday.

Thirty years ago, Toronto was a city obsessed with being “world class,” or at least, known around the world. And outside of Hollywood movies filmed on its streets, nothing would have fast-forwarded that more than a World Series win.

The 1987 Blue Jays were on on pace to win 100 games, carrying a 3.5-game lead in the AL East into the final week of the season — when it all went sideways. Seven straight losses.

Reported, written and narrated by Gare Joyce, who was just breaking into the media at the time, with mixing and sound design by Amil Delic, The Fall of ’87 transports listeners back to that last, lost week and the biggest collapse in franchise history.

The episode co-stars many who lived through the nightmare, including Tom Henke, Ernie Whitt, Jesse Barfield, Jerry Howarth and Garth Iorg. Have a listen below.
