The Seattle Mariners traded minor-league pitcher Thyago Vieira to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for international signing bonus pool money.
A seemingly innocuous transaction at first, but according to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman, this is actually a sign indicating how serious Seattle is in pursuing soon-to-be posted two-way Japanese star Shohei Otani.
Heyman also reports that the MLBPA has set a Monday deadline to resolve the issue it has with a possible Otani posting.
The GM meetings end on Thursday and the MLB’s Winter Meetings don’t get going until Dec. 10, but it looks like Otani sweepstakes are already beginning in earnest.
