OAKLAND, Calif. — The Seattle Mariners signed veteran Henry Blanco on Friday and designated fellow catcher Kelly Shoppach for assignment.
The 41-year-old Blanco, released by the Toronto Blue Jays on June 10, is with his 11th major league team. A career .226 hitter, Blanco batted just .184 in 15 games with the Blue Jays.
Shoppach, 33, was batting only .196 in 35 games with the Mariners.
