Milwaukee Brewers revive legend of ‘The Sandlot’

There are few memories quite as special as heading out to your nearest baseball diamond to take some big cuts and make some new friends.

No movie portrayed that feeling quite like The Sandlot, where a new kid on the block by the name of Scotty Smalls tries to fit in by playing a sport about which he doesn’t have a clue.

After embarrassing himself on his first visit to the sandlot by having a deep fly ball hit him square, Smalls works his way into their good books when he naively volunteers to chase after a ball hit over the fence and into the territory of “The Beast,” a large English Mastiff the rest of the kids are terrified of.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the movie, and in honour of its memory, the Milwaukee Brewers made a fitting tribute via Twitter and re-enacted this scene where Smalls endears himself to the sandlot crew.

Catcher Stephen Vogt plays the role of Hamilton Porter, and executes the classic Porter point towards where the ball will go to perfection. Outfielder Brett Phillips is Smalls and the rest of the cast for all you die-hards is as follows:

Christian Yelich plays Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez, Eric Sogard is Squints, Hernan Perez is Yeah-Yeah, Jeremy Jeffress is Kenny Denunez, Josh Hader plays Bertram Grover Weeks, Chase Anderson is Repeat and Jett Bandy is Timmy.

The Brewers apparently had no access to an English Mastiff of their own and so made do with part-Bichon Frise mixed-breed mascot Hank.

If you need a refresher of the original scene and want to judge the acting chops of these Brewers players, take a peak at the original right here.
