MLB playoff races coming down to final Sunday

Adrian Beltre, Nick Swisher, and Evan Longoria hope to lead their teams to the post-season.

The American League Wild Card race remains wide open heading into the final Sunday of the MLB season.

The New York Yankees, Kansas City Royals, and Baltimore Orioles were eliminated from post-season contention over the past week and the final two Wild Card spots will come down to the Cleveland Indians, Tampa Bay Rays, and the Texas Rangers.

Heading into Game 162, Cleveland leads the race, boasting a one-game lead over Tampa Bay and Texas, who are tied with a 90-71 record.

After Tampa Bay’s loss to the Toronto Blue Jays Saturday, Cleveland can clinch their first post-season berth since 2007 with a win over the Minnesota Twins Sunday.

The Rays’ finale at Toronto will start things off, followed by the Indians taking on the Twins and concluding with the Angels at the Rangers.

In the event of a three-way tie, the Indians would host the Rays Monday night for the top Wild Card spot, and the loser would then play at Texas for the final spot in the AL playoffs.

In the National League, the St. Louis Cardinals and Braves are battling it out for the top seed while the Dodgers are waiting to see where they’ll be headed in the Division Series.
