With only weeks to play in the MLB regular season the Cy Young races are heating up. This week’s MLB power rankings identify each team’s best pitcher of 2015.

Rank Team Previous
1

Plenty of options on the Cardinals, with John Lackey, Michael Wacha and Lancy Lynn all receiving consideration, but Carlos Martinez’s 9.28 K/9 in 26 starts stands out.

1
2

Gerrit Cole has been terrific in his third big league season with a 16-8 record and 2.60 ERA in his 29 starts.

6
3

As if it could be anyone else? Clayton Kershaw has been worth 7.4 wins above replacement in yet another Cy Young worthy campaign.

2
4

Edinson Volquez is having a typically steady season, with a 3.59 ERA in 30 starts.

3
5

Lots of intriguing young talent on the Mets these days, but Jacob deGrom has been the most consistent, with a 2.64 ERA and 9.40 K/9 in his 28 starts.

7
6

Jake Arrieta has established himself as one of the best pitchers in the National League this season with a 19-6 record and a sparkling 1.96 ERA in 30 starts.

5
7

He’s only been with the Blue Jays since the trade deadline, but David Price has been far and away Toronto’s best pitcher, with a 2.17 ERA in nine starts.

4
8

Who knows where the Yankees would be without the late-inning mastery of Dellin Betances who has a 1.46 ERA and 14.23 K/9 in his 74 innings out of the bullpen.

8
9

Both Colby Lewis and Yovani Gallardo have been very good, but edge to Gallardo for his 3.35 ERA in 30 starts.

10
10

It’s been a breakout year for Dallas Keuchel, who has 17 wins and has been worth 5.5 wins above replacement.

9
11

While the Gaints have taken a step back in 2015, Madison Bumgarner has remained incredible with a 9.65 K/9 and 2.91 ERA in 29 starts.

12
12

Kyle Gibson’s emergence has been timely for the Wild Card contending Twins; he has a 3.71 ERA in his 29 starts.

13
13

Max Scherzer has been worth every penny of the massive contract he signed to join the Nationals, putting up 5.4 wins above replacement and a 10.50 K/9 in his 29 starts this season.

11
14

The Angels haven’t pitched particularly well in 2015, but Garrett Richards has been a lone bright spot with a 3.81 ERA in 28 starts.

14
15

Carlos Carrasco and Danny Salazar are giving him a run for his money, but Corey Kluber still stands out from the pack with a team-leading 5.2 wins above replacement.

16
16

Zach Britton has done a fine job in the closer role for the Orioles this season, with 33 saves in 36 opportunities and a 1.80 ERA in 58 appearances.

15
17

Yet another great season for the King, as Felix Hernandez has a 17-9 record with a 3.55 ERA in his 29 starts.

22
18

Chris Archer is a legitimate Cy Young candidate in just his second full major league season with a 2.95 ERA and 11.03 K/9 in 31 starts.

17
19

The Red Sox have not pitched well at all, so Wade Miley wins by default for staying healthy all season and making 29 starts in which he posted 2.7 wins above replacement.

18
20

Slim pickings on this team, but credit to Robbie Ray who has an 8.16 K/9 in spite of his 4-12 record.

19
21

Chris Sale is having a typically excellent season, with 11.99 K/9 and 6.0 wins above replacement in his 28 outings.

21
22

It would have been David Price, but the Tigers traded him to the Blue Jays, so the honour falls to Justin Verlander who, despite a 3-8 record, has a very decent 3.58 ERA.

23
23

Tyson Ross tends to fly under the radar, but he remains quite good with a 3.18 ERA and 9.49 K/9 in 31 starts this season.

20
24

In spite of missing most of the season, Jose Fernandez still leads all Marlins pitchers with 2.0 wins above replacement in 2015.

24
25

In just his second full season, Sonny Gray has been one of the best pitchers in the American League, with a 2.56 ERA in 29 starts

25
26

Taylor Jungmann has pieced together a fine rookie season with a 3.05 ERA in his 18 starts

26
27

Anthony DeSclafani has been a nice find for the Reds in his first full season, posting a 3.67 ERA in 28 starts.

27
28

As the only Rockie to throw more than 110 innings, Jorge de la Rosa and his 4.17 ERA in 26 starts wins by default

28
29

Ken Giles has been spectacular out of the bullpen for the moribund Phillies, posting a 1.43 ERA and 11.14 K/9 in his 62 appearances.

29
30

It’s been a forgettable year for the Braves but not for Shelby Miller, who has a career-best 3.00 ERA in his first season in Atlanta.
