A moment of appreciation for Mark Buehrle

Here’s to Mark Buehrle, the throwback soft-tosser and former Toronto Blue Jay who didn’t have a job for the first time in 18 years when spring training officially began this February—and likely couldn’t have been happier. Always one to do more with less, we’ll guess that the steadfastly old-school Buehrle didn’t officially retire or sign with a team this winter simply because he could do without the six-week exercise in puttering around and looking busy that is MLB training camp. At 36, he’s certainly not young in this game, but he pitched to a 3.81 ERA over 198.2 innings last season, so he’s certainly not done in this game, either. Kudos to whichever team picks him up and gets a man who can simply step onto the mound and pitch.
