The Toronto Blue Jays left 13 runners on base in Monday’s opening day loss to the Baltimore Orioles, but MLB Network’s Jon Morosi isn’t too worried about the lineup, which he says is in the process of adapting.
“We’re still seeing a bit of the adjustment phase for the Jays lineup,” Morosi told The Starting Lineup on Sportsnet 590 The FAN Tuesday morning. “I still think it’s a well above average lineup that’s going to hit. No question about that.”
The Blue Jays went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position on Monday, a key stat in their 11-inning loss at Camden Yards. Morosi says it will take time for the lineup to get into a groove in its new life without slugger Edwin Encarnacion, who signed with the Cleveland Indians after spending parts of eight years as a fixture in the Toronto batting order.
“I think they are just still finding their way a little, collectively as a group,” said Morosi. “There was a good rhythm there [with Edwin]. I think it’s going to take time for what I believe is still going to be a very good lineup to find their way early in the season.”
